Our ability to predict what we will feel in the future keeps us from doing things that can improve us.

For example, lying in your comfortable bed before bedtime, you think about what will happen if you get up at 5 a.m. to walk and exercise in 30-degree weather. That means you must break your sleep, get out of a warm bed, get dressed, and freeze while exercising. Nothing about this screams comfort or gives warm and fuzzy feelings. So it is then we decide not to do it.

Our ability to do the things that don’t make us feel warm and fuzzy is what separates the achievers from the non-achievers.

What are some things you do not want to do but can do today to help get you better? Start with small things. Maybe it is telling others good morning despite you not being “a morning person.” Perhaps it is complementing a coworker you have had a run-in with. Maybe it is going for a short walk during your lunch break. The size step does not matter as much as you are taking the first step.
