My daughter asked me this one morning, “Why do you put yourself through that torture?”
It was a bit frosty that morning—frosty enough that I lost feeling in my hands on the last stretch of my run back home. I told her, “Life can be torture at times. However, this torture I choose prepares me for the future torture life will throw at me.” She said, “Uh, my life isn’t torture, laughing.”
Maybe my response was a little too much or too extreme. Running in extreme conditions has been an excellent way for me to build a tougher mentality. I get dressed and lace my shoes up, no matter the weather. That has taught me to be ready no matter what is ahead of me or what life will throw at me next. Although a little extreme the principle has really helped to keep me from a victim mentality when things get tough or difficult things happen.
Life will always throw us curves, but we have a choice in how we react. We get to choose our attitudes. We get to choose our perseverance. Have a great week!
