This morning, the District Governor of the Rotary, Craig Walling, and his wife, First Lady Clara, were the guest speakers at the Rotary Club of Youngsville’s meeting at Mendez’s Seafood Bar and Grill in Youngsville, Louisiana.
As the guest speaker, Wallis addressed the club about the upcoming events and goals of the Rotary Club. One initiative is to place peace poles at schools to promote peace. He also discussed Rotary’s mission to eradicate polio, noting that this goal is close to being achieved. After polio eradication, Rotary will focus on efforts to prevent human trafficking.
There are about fifty Rotary Clubs within the district Wallis governs. He reminded the group that the most important person in Rotary is you (each club member), and the second most important person is the club president.
The First Lady, Clara, spoke to requested support for a special project. She asks each club to aid blood cancer patients suffering from leukemia and lymphoma by donating blood stem cells and platelets. These donations will be dedicated to someone affected by cancer.
The Rotary Club of Youngsville has already taken the first step in helping to support The First Lady’s project by enlisting Be the Match, an organization that has managed the world’s most diverse marrow registry, to have a tent at the Rotary Club of Youngville’s Patch at the Park which will be held on October 6, 2024, at the Youngsville Sports Complex Expansion.
