It has been over five months since Cody Louviere became interim Chief of Youngsville Police on August 25, 2023, following his appointment by the city council.
A native of Indian Bayou in Vermilion Parish, Louviere stays close to his long-time friends. He says the tight-knit group of friends is family to him.
Like many children did, Louviere played baseball, basketball, and football during childhood. In his sophomore year of high school, he quit sports to pursue work and money. His first job was at Albertson’s at Ambassador Caffery Parkway and Kaliste Saloom Road intersection. He also worked in the oilfield for a few years.
In 2002, at nineteen years old, Louiviere went to work for the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office (LPSO) first as a Reserve Deputy, then as a Patrol Deputy, a K-Nine Handler, a Sergeant, and a Patrol Lieutenant/Watch Commander.
While working for LPSO, Louviere and his wife built their home in Youngsville in 2012. Now a widower, Louviere lives in the same house with his two daughters, Lexi and Ava.
Louviere enjoys playing golf, cooking, and entertaining, especially entertaining his close-knit group of friends.
Working in law enforcement is not just a job for Louviere; it is a career that motivates and drives him. He loves the job and the profession and considers the opportunity as invaluable.
For Louviere, he doesn’t accept the status quo that things have to be done a certain way “because that’s the way it has always been done”. Instead, he searches for the best possible solutions and efficiency when needed.
When asked what is most rewarding for him as Interim Police Chief, Louiviere responded, “To be the person to make positive changes for the officers and the Youngsville Police Department”. He aims to be his officers’ supportive guide and leader while serving as the interim police chief.
Above all, Louviere’s goal is to be a good father to his two daughters while being a good dad to his two pups and golden doodle.
