Broussard, LA (April 16, 2026) – The Broussard Fire Department held a dedication ceremony Thursday evening, recognizing the opening of newly remodeled living quarters at Miguez Fire Station, an addition that now allows the station to be staffed twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. The sub-station is located at 200 West Fairfield.

The station, originally opened in 2001, was remodeled and officially reopened on February 27, 2026. The addition of on site living quarters makes continuous staffing possible and enhances the department’s ability to respond quickly to emergencies.

The ceremony, held at 5:30 p.m., included remarks from Fire Chief Byran Champagne, Assistant Fire Chief Justin Denais, Robert Benoit with Acadiana Ambulance, and Broussard Mayor Ray Bourque.

An opening prayer was delivered by Andy Tribe, and the station blessing was led by Robert Benoit.

Chief Champagne said, “This station is a benefit not only to our citizens but to our firefighters, and will serve for many years of growth to our great city.”

Mayor Bourque emphasized the importance of maintaining high standards in public safety services, stating that “if we are going to have professional services in Broussard, we need professional people.” He also noted that the average response time for emergency calls is about two minutes.

Also speaking was Tracie Ysaguire, who shared a recent experience that underscored the value of the station’s expanded capabilities. Ysaguire said lightning struck her home just last month, and with the station now staffed around the clock and located near her home, firefighters were able to respond quickly.

She also spoke about her personal connection to the fire service, noting that her father, now retired, was one of the longest-serving captains in the New Orleans Fire Department, and reflecting on the importance of having trained personnel readily available when emergencies occur.

Fire department officials and community members gathered for the event, which highlighted the City of Broussard’s continued investment in public safety infrastructure. With firefighters now stationed at the facility at all times, response times are expected to improve for residents and businesses in the surrounding area.

The addition of living quarters ensures that personnel remain on site during their shifts, allowing for immediate deployment when calls are received and reinforcing the department’s commitment to protecting the community.
