Cassidy Announces $2.2 Million for Road Safety Projects from his Infrastructure Law

WASHINGTON (Dec. 11, 2023) – United States Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) announced the Department of Transportation (DOT) will grant Louisiana a total of $2,232,000.00 from his Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) for road safety infrastructure projects. 

“When writing the Infrastructure Law, improving the quality of life for our communities was a priority,” said Dr. Cassidy. “By addressing road safety, we are creating a better environment for the next generation of Louisianans to live.”

Grant AwardedProjectProject Description
$1,480,000.00Vulnerable Road Users Safety Improvement Program for the Rapides AreaThis grant will provide federal funding for the Rapides Area Planning Commission to update its Local Road Safety Plan to meet SS4A Action Plan requirements; develop comprehensive safety action plans for five rural cities; create an ADA Transition Plan for the region; and collect data.
$400,000.00Plaquemines Parish Comprehensive Safety Action PlanThis grant will provide federal funding to develop a comprehensive safety action plan.
$352,000.00City of Gretna Transportation Safety Action Plan and Demonstration ActivitiesThis grant will provide federal funding to develop a comprehensive safety action plan and to pilot demonstration activities such as temporary “Yield Here to Pedestrians” signage and high-visibility crosswalks at six intersections.
