Higgins Issues Statement on Louisiana’s Title IX Lawsuit

Submitted by United States Representative Clay Higgins of the 3rd District in Louisiana.

WASHINGTON (Apr. 29, 2024) – Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) issued the following statement after Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry and Attorney General Liz Murrill announced a lawsuit against the Biden administration’s revised Title IX rules, which impose radical gender ideology on public schools.

The U.S. Department of Education (DOE) released final Title IX regulations expanding the definition of “sex” to include gender identity. This decision eviscerates Title IX protections for female students, meaning that biological males who identify as females could participate in women’s sports and access women’s restrooms.

“I stand with Louisiana’s leadership in strong opposition to the Biden administration’s radical changes to Title IX,” said Congressman Higgins. “The revised rule poses a major threat to female students across the country. I commend Attorney General Murrilland Governor Landry on their mission to protect fundamental American values and defend our children.”

Congressman Higgins is an original co-sponsor and voted to pass H.R. 734, the Protection of Women and Girls in Sport Act of 2023. You can read more on the legislation here.
