WASHINGTON (Apr. 17, 2024) – Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) and House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA) sent a letter to Chairman Willie Phillips of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) urging approval of the permit for the Venture Global Calcasieu Pass II LNG Project (CP2), a natural gas liquefication export terminal in Cameron Parish.

“The CP2 project is one of the longest to ever sit before the Commission, despite having received its final Environmental Impact Statement over eight months ago. However, CP2 has met all environmental standards and regulations necessary to move forward. As an independent agency, FERC is capable of moving forward without regard to the Biden Administration’s pause on issuing export authorizations for new liquified natural gas (LNG) terminals, and we ask that this project be swiftly considered and approved,” wrote the lawmakers.

The letter continues, “The benefits of this project are immense and in our nation’s interest. This project will support global energy security by supplying clean-burning, American natural gas to the world. LNG export facilities like CP2 allow the U.S. to provide millions of people access to affordable, stable, and secure energy from a dependable ally. Further restricting the supply of American LNG in the global market will empower our adversaries and jeopardize U.S. foreign policy objectives.”
