WASHINGTON (January 22, 2025) – Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) voted to pass S. 5, the Laken Riley Act, which requires the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to immediately detain illegal aliens who commit crimes.

This legislation passed both the House and Senate and heads to President Trump’s desk to be signed into law. The bill is aligned with President Trump’s executive actions to secure the southern border and deport criminal illegal aliens who entered our country under the prior administration.

“This legislation reflects Republican commitment to prosecute and deport criminal aliens and protect American lives,” said Congressman Higgins. “American citizens will be protected. Working with President Trump, we are taking immediate action for the safety and security of our nation.”
