Submitted by United States Representative Clay Higgins of the 3rd District in Louisiana.

WASHINGTON (November 19, 2024) – Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) introduced the bipartisan, bicameral H.R. 10123, the Streamlining Federal Cybersecurity Regulations Act, which would protect our national security and critical infrastructure by combating the threat of cyberattacks. The bill will streamline cybersecurity regulations by cutting bureaucratic red tape and removing duplicative regulatory efforts that make it more difficult to address major cyber threats. Senator James Lankford (R-OK) and Senator Gary Peters (D-MI) introduced companion legislation in the U.S. Senate.

Cyberattacks have increased in both frequency and intensity, causing the cybersecurity compliance environment to become increasingly complex as regulatory bodies and agencies look to prevent serious incidents among agencies. It is estimated that cybersecurity teams are spending 40 to 70% on compliance rather than making improvements to their infrastructure. This bill would address the current challenges facing agencies by developing a framework that streamlines cybersecurity and information security regulations.

“With cyberattacks becoming increasingly prevalent, we as a nation must aggressively respond to every cyberattack”, said Congressman Higgins. “This bipartisan, bicameral bill cuts through the bureaucratic red tape that plagues the federal government. Our bill simplifies the convoluted and complicated regulations that make it more difficult to address the rising cyber threats.”
