WASHINGTON (February 25, 2025) – Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) announced today that the Social Security Administration will begin retroactive payments in accordance with the implementation of the Social Security Fairness Act (SSFA).

At the beginning of February, Congressman Higgins sent a letter to the Social Security Administration’s Acting Commissioner urging the expedited implementation of SSFA. Read more here.

“We have restored righteousness to the Social Security benefits of our elders. Today’s announcement reflects our request to expedite implementation of the Social Security Fairness Act. Millions of Americans will now begin receiving the full benefits that they have righteously earned,” said Congressman Higgins.

The Social Security Administration will finish depositing most retroactive payments into bank accounts by the end of March. Any adjustments to ongoing monthly benefits will first be reflected in the payments received in April. Due to the expedition of the benefit payments, many individuals will receive payments before an explanatory notice is delivered.
