Higgins Supports President Trump’s Approval of Commonwealth LNG

WASHINGTON (February 14, 2025) – Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) announced that President Trump and U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright approved the administration’s first Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) export authorization to Commonwealth LNG.
 
The project, which is proposed for Cameron Parish, experienced a prolonged delay due to the Biden administration’s moratorium on LNG export permit approvals. Once constructed, Commonwealth LNG will be able to export up to 1.21 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d) of natural gas as LNG.
 
“Today’s approval is a win for American energy and South Louisiana,” said Congressman Higgins. “For eight years, my office has advocated for the growth of America’s LNG industry that provides our nation and the world with clean, reliable, and affordable energy. President Trump is delivering on his promise to restore American energy dominance. This decision paves the way for LNG expansion and good-paying jobs in South Louisiana.”
 
In December 2024, Congressman Higgins sent a letter to incoming U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright calling for immediate action to overturn the Biden administration’s LNG permitting moratorium. Congressman Higgins also asked Secretary Wright to expedite review of pending applications, including Venture Global’s CP2 project and the permit for Commonwealth LNG’s. Read the letter here.
