Donald “Don” Landry was born and raised in Lafayette Parish and has spent his entire life and career striving to make our community the best place to live and raise a family. After graduating from Youngsville High School, he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of Southwestern Louisiana, now the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. After studying law at Southern University Law School, he received his Juris Doctorate Degree in 1976 and began his legal career when he was admitted to the Bar in October of 1976. He was then associated with the law firm of Thompson and Perrin.
Presently, he was a partner in the law firm of Perrin, Landry and deLaunay. Don has served as the City Attorney for the City of Broussard and the Town Attorney for the Town of Erath. He also is the former Attorney for the Evangeline Economic and Development District and received the Optimist’s “Respect for Law” Award.
Don became an Assistant District Attorney with the Lafayette Parish District Attorney’s Office, serving in this capacity for 34 years. He is a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association, the Lafayette Parish Bar Association, the Louisiana District Attorneys Association, and served as a volunteer lawyer with Lafayette Volunteer Lawyers.
Don served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps Reserve from 1966 to 1972. He was proud to serve the United States and assist during this very militant time in our country’s history. He is a member of the ULL Alumni Association and has served as a Board Member and President in 2015–2016. In 2008, Don was awarded the Volunteer of the Year Award for the UL Alumni Association.
Don is married to Rebecca Dansdill Landry for 58 years, is a proud father and grandfather, and is honored to call Lafayette, Louisiana home. He also is an extremely active member of the community. Don is a member of St. John Catholic Church, has coached for SLYSI Youth Baseball and Basketball Leagues, and is a recipient of the Jaycees of Lafayette Community Service Award. He is an active member and has served as President in several of the area’s Mardi Gras krewes and associations.
Don proudly serves as District Attorney for the 15th Judicial District of the State of Louisiana, serving the parishes of Acadia, Lafayette, and Vermilion.
