Month-long celebration in honor of organ, tissue and eye donors to kickoff at St. Julien Park
LAFAYETTE, LA (Apr. 4, 2024) – On Thursday, April 4, 2024, at 10 a.m., LOPA (Louisiana Organ Procurement Agency), along with our community partner, the City of Broussard, hosted a Donate Life Flag Raising Ceremony honoring organ and tissue donor heroes. The event occurred around the flagpole at St. Julien Park, 701 St. Nazaire Road in Broussard. Mayor Ray Bourque and LOPA representatives spoke at the flag-raising. The Donate Life flag will be presented by the Honor Guard and blessed by Pastor Marty of Our Savior’s Church-Broussard before the flag is raised. The flag will fly the entire month of April.
“We are honored to partner with LOPA again this year in remembering and paying tribute to all LOPA heroes and their families,” says Mayor Ray Bourque. “We are proud for St. Julien Park to serve as the backdrop for these families to celebrate and honor their loved ones.”
Every April, LOPA focuses statewide attention on the potential individuals have to save lives by registering their decision to be organ, tissue, and eye donors. Almost 2,000 Louisianans are currently waiting for their second chance at life. Observed every April for the last twenty years, National Donate Life Month (NDLM) honors organ, tissue, and eye donors and encourages Americans to help save lives by joining the donor registry.
