LAFAYETTE, LA (August 15, 2024) – Lafayette Consolidated Government (LCG) and LUS Fiber announce that high-speed fiber-optic internet and phone services are now available to residents and businesses in Ville Platte, Mamou, Pine Prairie, and surrounding areas. This expansion, funded by the GUMBO and NTIA grants, marks a significant milestone in bringing world class connectivity to Evangeline Parish.

“As a native of Mamou, I am excited to bring LUS Fiber’s expansion into Evangeline Parish because I know it will be a game-changer for the communities and its residents,” said LUS Fiber Director Michael Soileau. “We’re incredibly proud to bring state and federal grant dollars back home, expanding services and ensuring that our neighbors—who often travel and work throughout our community—stay connected and supported.”

The Granting Unserved Municipalities Broadband Opportunities (GUMBO) grant program aims to help providers facilitate the deployment of broadband service to unserved areas of the state. The National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) grants are part of a federal initiative to increase broadband access across America, laying the groundwork for sustainable economic growth; improved education, public safety, and health care; and the advancement of other national priorities.

Lafayette Mayor-President Monique B. Boulet stated, “LUS Fiber is one of Lafayette’s greatest assets. It helps secure our local economy and, as the federal government spends over $45 billion to bring fiber to other communities throughout the US, it is critically import to secure our regional economy. This expansion enables educational opportunities, job growth, greater healthcare options and economic stability to communities throughout Acadiana bringing long term growth and stability for Lafayette’s economy.”
