LAFAYETTE, LA (February 13, 2025) – LUS Fiber, in collaboration with the 4-A Sister’s Club, is proud to honor Major Fannie McClendon during Black History Month for her dedicated service in the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion during World War II. The remarkable efforts of this battalion inspired Tyler Perry’s film The Six Triple Eight. The brave women tasked with sorting and delivering months of delayed mail played a crucial role in ensuring soldiers received critical communications from home, reflecting the battalion’s motto: “No mail, low morale.”
LUS Fiber’s ongoing commitment to honoring the local community and appreciating its rich history is reflected in this proud collaboration with the 4-A Sister’s Club. LUS Fiber seeks to shine a light on the incredible work of Major McClendon and the courageous women of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, ensuring that their legacy inspires future generations.
“At LUS Fiber, we believe in investing not only in cutting-edge technology but also in celebrating the pillars of our community,” said Michael Soileau, Director of LUS Fiber. “We are proud to partner with 4-A Sister’s Club to recognize Major McClendon, a Lafayette native whose dedication, leadership, and legacy continue to inspire generations.”
Join us for this Special Event! LUS Fiber and the 4-A Sister’s Club invite the community to a special evening honoring Major McClendon. The event will feature a formal award presentation in her honor, which will be accepted on her behalf by her niece, Dianne Mouton-Allen. Following the ceremony, guests will have the exclusive opportunity to enjoy a screening of The Six Triple Eight, a film by Tyler Perry that highlights.
