YOUNGSVILLE, La. (Dec. 4, 2023) – The grave of Matthew Carter at St. Anne Cemetery in Youngsville, Louisiana, is being vandalized, according to his mother, Chelline Carter.

The fall flower arrangement on his grave was allegedly stolen, resulting in Carter’s parents putting a lock on the Christmas floral arrangement placed at his grave on the evening of November 29, 2023. Mrs. Carter alleges there has been an attempt to steal that floral arrangement by attempting to cut the lock.

Mrs. Carter advised she filed a police report with the Youngsville Police Department on December 4, 2023, concerning alleged vandalism.

Seventeen-year-old Carter was found shot in his car on January 17, 2020, outside of an apartment complex on North Meyers Drive in Lafayette, Louisiana. He was taken to a local hospital, where he died a few days later on January 22, 2020.

According to an article about Carter’s murder in The Advertiser on January 22, 2022, “Two minors, ages 13 and 14, were charged with first-degree murder, armed robbery, and conspiracy to commit armed robbery.” [source: The Advertiser]

Being an organ donor, Carter’s organs were donated to the Louisiana Organ Procurement Agency (LOPA).
