YOUNGSVILLE, LA (March 20, 2025)Acadiana Renaissance Charter High School (ARCAHS) will host its annual Adulting Day on March 21, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 AM in the high school gym, located at 610 Savoy Road, Youngsville, Louisiana. This career fair-style event is designed to equip juniors and seniors with essential life skills as they transition into adulthood.

“These students are getting ready to move out on their own whether to a college dorm or apartment of their own and many of them lack basic life-skills needed for success,” said Amanda Rideaux, ARCAHS teacher and event coordinator.  “Of course, we are committed to the academic success of our students, but we also want to be sure they can flourish and thrive as confident and contributing members of society as well. This event aligns with our mission, which is a relentless commitment to student greatness in school and in life.”

Throughout the event, students visit uniquely designed stations where volunteers provide hands-on, real-life lessons in various practical skills such as how to iron clothes, tie a tie, shake hands professionally and even change a tire. In addition, volunteers will discuss important topics like personal banking, investing and interview tips when job seeking.

Volunteer guests include community members, business owners and civic leaders, Rideaux said. “Our fire chief will teach basic fire safety to ensure our students know how to safely handle themselves in case of a fire in their future dorm or apartment.”

Transitioning to adulthood can be daunting to young adults getting ready to enter a new life stage. While they’ve seen their parents and other trusted adults navigate through, they may feel intimidated to ask how to do some things that seem to come naturally to others.

“Things we just assume kids know—they don’t. But this way we can teach them and help them understand that they are not alone in their challenges. They will learn the difference between debit and credit, personal taxes, how to file a tax return. We’ll cover all of that at Adulting Day.”
