LPSS Announces Appointment of Prairie Elementary School Principal

LAFAYETTE, LA (July 10, 2024) – The Lafayette Parish School System is pleased to announce the appointment of Melissa Brummley as the next leader of Prairie Elementary School. Ms. Brumley has 25 years of experience as an educator, working across various educational levels. She began her career by teaching second grade at Colfax Elementary School in 1999. Ms. Brumley then moved to Montgomery High School, where she taught 7th and 8th grade English Language Arts for five years. At Montgomery High School, she taught English, Speech Communications, and Psychology and coached the Varsity Softball team. Furthermore, she served as the Instructional Leader, focusing on improving teaching and learning in grades 7-12. Her exceptional dedication to education led to her being recognized as Teacher of the Year at both the middle and high school levels at Montgomery High School.

In 2012, Ms. Brumley became the Academic and Behavior Interventionist at Scott Middle School within the Lafayette Parish School System. Shortly after, she took on the Data Liaison and School Testing Facilitator role at Carencro High School. Ms. Brumley served as Assistant Principal for a decade at Alice Boucher Elementary and Acadiana High School. Her outstanding performance made her the 2024 High School Assistant Principal of the Year for the Lafayette Parish School System.

Ms. Brumley expresses her gratitude for joining the Prairie Elementary School Community and emphasizes her commitment to fostering a supportive and nurturing environment where teachers and students can excel.

Superintendent Francis Touchet, Jr. states, “Ms. Brumley’s appointment as principal of Prairie Elementary is a testament to her extensive experience and educational leadership skills. Her dedication to student success will undoubtedly drive cultural and academic growth at Prairie.”

Ms. Brumley holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Northwestern State University, where she also completed her Master’s +30.
