LAFAYETTE, LA (April 14, 2025) – The Lafayette Parish School System (LPSS) is proud to announce the appointment of Mrs. Rhonda Dickerson as the new Chief of Elementary Schools. With more than 27 years of experience in LPSS, Mrs. Dickerson brings a wealth of expertise, a deep passion for education, and a proven track record of leadership to this district-level role.
Mrs. Dickerson began her journey in education at Ossun Elementary, where she taught fourth grade for six years before transitioning into the role of Curriculum Coordinator. Inspired by her growing impact on student learning and school operations, she pursued and earned a Master’s of Education in Educational Leadership.
In 2010, she was appointed Assistant Principal at Ossun Elementary and later became Principal of Ridge Elementary, a position she has held for the past eight years. Under her leadership, Ridge Elementary has fostered a strong culture of academic excellence and community engagement.
Mrs. Dickerson is a graduate of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education. Throughout her career, she has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to equity, student achievement, and teacher support.
Reflecting on her new role, Mrs. Dickerson shared, “I am truly honored and humbled to take on the role as Chief of Elementary Schools for Lafayette Parish School System. I am dedicated to working to achieve the collective vision we all share for our schools, our students, and our future. I look forward to working together to ensure that every student, regardless of background or ability, has the tools and opportunities to succeed.”
Superintendent Francis Touchet Jr. praised the appointment, stating, “Mrs. Dickerson is a compassionate, visionary leader whose deep roots in Lafayette Parish and unwavering dedication to students make her the ideal person to serve as Chief of Elementary Schools. Her leadership will be instrumental in supporting our principals, strengthening our elementary programs, and driving student success across the district.”
