Lafayette, LA (May 5, 2025) – Lafayette Parish School System (LPSS) and Lafayette High School proudly announce Stephen Hearen as the new Head Football Coach for the Mighty Lions.

Coach Hearen brings nearly two decades of coaching experience to the role, including the last nine years at Ascension Episcopal School—three of those as head coach. A 2003 graduate of Lafayette High School, Hearen returns to his alma mater with deep roots in the Lafayette community and a proven record of leadership and player development.

After graduating from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in 2008, Hearen began building his coaching resume with assistant roles at Breaux Bridge High School, De La Salle High School, and Lafayette High, before his successful tenure at Ascension Episcopal.

“We are excited to welcome Coach Hearen back home to Lafayette High,” said Superintendent Francis Touchet, Jr. “His experience, leadership, and connection to the school make him the ideal person to lead our football program forward.”

Coach Hearen and his wife, Megan Roman Hearen—also a 2003 Lafayette High graduate—are proud parents to Roman (11), Amelia (9), Lola (4), and Nora (2).

Please join us in welcoming Coach Hearen and his family back to the Lion community.
