John M. Trahan has been disqualified from running for Youngsville Police Chief in the special election to be held on November 5, 2024, according to the Acadiana Advocate. On Monday, July 29, 2024, according to Judge Scott Privat, Trahan did not meet the one-year domicile requirement when he qualified for the seat on July 18, 2024. According to an article in the Acadiana Advocate, Youngsville Police Chief candidate John M. Trahan, Jr.’s candidacy has been challenged. The Lafayette District Attorney’s Office filed a petition to disqualify Trahan.

The petition was filed by registered voter James Sarvell, a resident of Youngsville, Louisiana. The petition claims that Trahan has not met the one-year domicile requirement. According to the Acadiana Advocate’s article, Trahan changed his voter registration to 401 Détente Road in Youngsville in November 2023.

Trahan qualified to run for Youngsville Police Chief on July 18, 2024, in a special election for Youngsville Police Chief.
