Lafayette Parish, LA (June 2, 2025) – Have you received a text message from “E-ZPass” or another toll service claiming you owe money? Do not click the link or reply. It’s a scam, according to the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office.
This type of scam, called “smishing” (text message phishing), sends fake messages pretending to inform you of unpaid tolls, with the goal of stealing your personal or payment information.
For Louisiana drivers: The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) operates GeauxPass, the electronic toll system for roads such as the LA 1 Expressway and the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway. E-ZPass from other states does not work in Louisiana.
Stay safe: Ignore and delete suspicious texts. Never share personal information through unexpected messages.
