UPDATE
LAFAYETTE, LA (June 24, 2024, 2:50 p.m.) – Investigators on scene determined that a total of three vehicles and one motorcycle was involved in this morning accident on I-10 East at University Ave. Preliminary investigation revealed that for unknown reasons the motorcyclist lost control of his motorcycle (Vehicle 1) and crashed. Due to the motorcyclist crashing, traffic began to stop on the interstate causing a second crash.
Vehicle 2 who was traveling in the inside lane of travel struck the rear right side of Vehicle 3 and then struck the rear of Vehicle 4 who was stopped in the outside lane.
The motorcyclist was transported to a local hospital in critical condition and the driver of Vehicle 4 was transported to a local hospital in stable condition. Impairment is not believed to be a factor in this crash. This crash in under investigation by the Lafayette Police Department’s Traffic Unit.

In regards to the major vehicle accident on I-10, the roadway is now open.

the accident occurred on the Eastbound overpass at University Avenue. All lanes are closed in that area.

LAFAYETTE, LA (June 24, 2024) – Lafayette Police are investigating a major vehicle crash on the I-10 overpass westbound. One person is critically injured as a result of the crash. Investigators with the Lafayette Police Traffic Unit are on the scene, and the investigation is ongoing.
I-10 westbound is shut down, and all traffic is diverted to an alternate route. If you are traveling in the area, expect delays. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
