TEMPORARY CLOSURE
LAFAYETTE, LA (November 20, 2024) – Lafayette Consolidated Government (LCG) announces the temporary closure of the E. Lewis Street Bridge beginning at 7:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 23, until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 24, 2024.
The closure is necessary for the final portion of the project, which includes an epoxy-urethane coating to seal the deck and add a friction course. This will extend the life of the structure and maximize longevity.

LAFAYETTE, LA (Novembe 8, 2024) – Lafayette Consolidated Government (LCG) announces the reopening of the E. Lewis Street bridge on the UL Lafayette Campus, crossing Coulee Mine. Repairs consisted of strengthening and painting the steel girders Vermilion Red, concrete patching, constructing new drainage catch basins, constructing ADA compliant sidewalk slopes leading up to the bridge, and sealing and coating the deck.
An epoxy-urethane coating to seal the deck and add a friction course will be applied on the bridge in the near future. Any related closures will be scheduled for a weekend date to minimize disruption to local traffic.

LAFAYETTE, LA (July 29, 2024) – Lafayette Consolidated Government (LCG) announces the temporary closure of the East Lewis Street bridge crossing Coulee Mine for necessary repairs. The initial closure is scheduled from July 30 to August 15, 2024. This period will allow for essential maintenance and ensure the safety and integrity of the bridge.
In consideration of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette’s move-in dates, the E. Lewis Street bridge will reopen to traffic from August 16 through August 18. Following these dates, the bridge will close again on August 19 for approximately two months to complete the remaining repairs.
Detour routes will be clearly marked and available to ensure minimal disruption. Local access will be maintained throughout the closure period.
