St Landry Parish

Search and rescue teams with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF), Sabine Parish Sheriff’s Office, Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office, and the Sabine Parish Fire District responded to a fatal boating incident in Sabine Parish on May 28, 2024.

There are still good people in the world. Norma Guillory of the Washington, Louisiana area, is thankful for three SLEMCO employees who helped her after one of her tires was gashed by a piece of metal on the road.

In the May 14, 1921 edition of the St. Landry Clarion newspaper in Opelousas, Louisiana, the following article was titled "Opelousean is Really a Hero: Amos Bourque Saves Eight People from Drowning When Boat Capsizes".

River Road, a country music band, will perform at Mojo's in Evangeline Downs Racetrack and Casino at 2235 Creswell Lane in Opelousas, Louisiana.

In order to enable his firefighters to attend his funeral, Chief Blair Rivette, Captain Roberts, and Firefighter/Engineer Guillot of the Youngsville Fire Department graciously stepped in to man the station, allowing Frazier's firefighters to pay their respects at his funeral service.

Today, one of the topics of concern within St. Landry Parish is the violence and disregard for authority among our youth. 

This oak tree is the Lastrapes Seven Brothers' Oak tree which is reported to have been planted in 1809.
