Nate Moore, a local entrepreneur and motivational speaker, was the Youngsville Chamber of Commerce luncheon guest speaker on March 13, 2024.
Throughout his speech, Moore emphasizes the importance of not limiting yourself or your business. He said, “Our biggest challenge is what we tell ourselves”. He continued by saying, 1) The greatest limitation in our lives is ourselves – we need to be our own biggest fan and 2) We don’t get to choose our feelings; we only get to choose our behavior and our thoughts.
“You have all of the authority and ability to change your life”, according to Moore. “Faith makes you believe you can jump over fire”.
We each have the authority to change our behavior; whatever behavior one may have is applied, whether it is good or bad behavior, is extended to our family and workplace. “Every day, we need to be intentional about what we want to be known for”, said Moore. When someone doesn’t have clarity or confidence in themselves, it shows.
Moore is a firm believer in going beyond what is expected of us and emphasizes that there is always more to do than what we receive in return. He believed that anything is possible, and if we desire a better life, it is our responsibility to pursue it. No one can limit our potential, and we should not allow anyone to create limitations for us.
He learned that the marketplace rewarded him for what he learned and applied to his life. Once he did this, things changed for him. He has one-day goals, as he can only control today. Every day, every single minute, is all each of us has right now; we decide what to do with “right now”.
Moore tells his story of starting as a dishwasher at Prejean’s Restaurant in Carencro, Louisiana. When his mother could not pick him up from work, he had to walk home. Instead of having to walk home, he bought a bicycle to go to and from work.
After leaving Prejean’s Restaurant, Moore became a car salesman. In the first month, he sold one car. He listened to Zig Ziglar who was an author, salesman and motivational speaker and in his second month, he sold twenty-two cars. Every day, Moore was listening to something new. He gained confidence with knowledge.
With ten dollars in his pocket, he went to Barnes and Noble and bought a book on How to Buy a House with No (or Little) Money Down. Thirty days later, he bought a house and had to flip it within thirty days to have the money to pay the house payment. He sold the house in thirty days, making him $45,000; he used this money to buy another house. He continued flipping houses by using and applying what he learned. He flipped houses until he purchased his first house for himself. In the end, the initial ten dollars on the book purchase made him millions of dollars in real estate.
At the age of twenty-two, Moore purchased his first business, a daycare. Not knowing this business, he quickly realized he didn’t know what he was walking into and lost the daycare. Although he didn’t know the business initially, he soon fell in love with providing children with care and social and emotional support.
There was a time when he and his family ate dinner by candlelight because he could not pay his utility bills. He got up, brushed himself off, and continued to move forward to change his life.
Today, Moore owns nineteen companies, including daycare learning facilities and care providers for the elderly and those with developmental disabilities, and has a consulting and investment group.
Moore challenges himself every day when he wakes up. He loves to run and exercise. His daily run consists of reading, journaling, running, working out at the gym, and walking home. Overall, Moore enjoys staying active and finding ways to challenge himself physically and mentally. He believes that physical activity is an important part of staying healthy, both physically and mentally.
Moore ends his talk with the story of a flea. A flea is capable of flying up to about thirty-six inches. If the flea is placed inside a jar with a lid, it can only fly to the lid. As the flea hits its limitation with the lid, it becomes conditioned to the restrictions of the closed jar. Once released, the flea will only believe it can fly as high as it could inside the closed jar and not fly higher. How high do you want to fly?
Moore’s Philosophy
- All opportunities to make choices to make changes in your life; whatever effort gains a reward.
- Decide on getting out of bed on who you want to be.
- Having consistency does not mean having perfection; being consistent means doing it every day; otherwise, you will miss doing the necessary things.
- What you listen to feeds your mind. Stay away from drama as what goes in your ears comes out of you.
- Everybody deserves a greeting.
- Fulfillment comes from what you give of who you are and what you share with other people.
- If you want a better attitude, give a better attitude.
- Forgive where you need to forgive. Forgiveness, grace and love.
- Once you finish work, evaluate yourself. Learn from it, and the next day, apply what you have learned.
