UPDATE 2: LPD is Working a Major Crash Involving a Bicyclist

Lafayette, LA – In regards to last night’s crash, the bicyclist, Luis Montoya E. Rojas (H/M, 47) of Lafayette, LA has died as a result of his injuries sustained from the crash.

Lafayette, LA – Regarding last night’s crash, the bicyclist, a 47-year-old male, remains in critical condition in a local hospital. Preliminary investigation revealed the bicyclist traveled north on the east sidewalk at the 700 block of Bertrand Drive. Vehicle 2 was traveling eastbound in the outside lane at the 2400 block of West Congress Street. The bicyclist traveled off of the sidewalk into the crosswalk on West Congress Street and was struck by vehicle #2.

Lafayette, LA – The Lafayette Police Department (LPD) is on the scene of a major vehicle crash involving a bicyclist.  The crash occurred at around 8:38 pm at the intersection of West Congress Street and Bertrand Drive. 

The bicyclist has been transported to a local hospital and is listed in critical condition. LPD asks motorists to avoid the area while their traffic investigators investigate. 

The intersection of West Congress Street and Bertrand Drive will be shut down while Traffic Investigators conduct their investigation. As more information is made available, LPD will send out an update.
