Home Severely Damaged by Fire

Lafayette, LA – Lafayette firefighters responded to a house fire in the 800 block of South Michot Road at 4:47 p.m. on October 26, 2023. Neighbors called 911 to report flames coming from the roof of the single-family dwelling. Multiple fire trucks responded to the scene. When first responders arrived, the roof of the dwelling was fully involved. Firefighters battled the approximately 3,000 square feet home for almost an hour before controlling the fire. The home sustained fire damage.

Several neighbors noticed smoke coming from the garage of the home. The garage was fully involved. Knowing the owners had a dog inside, two neighbors entered the home and rescued the dog. The owners were not home at the time of the fire.

There were no injuries.

Fire officials determined the fire originated inside the garage of the dwelling. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
