UPDATE: LAFAYETTE, La. (Dec. 1, 2023, 2:52 p.m.)
West University Avenue is now open in both directions and traffic is flowing normally.
LAFAYETTE, La. (Dec. 1, 2023) – The Lafayette Police Department’s Traffic Section is investigating a traffic crash on the 1300 block of West University Avenue near the intersection of Versailles Boulevard. The crash occurred at approximately 12:00 p.m.
Preliminary investigation indicates that a vehicle traveling southbound on the 1300 block of West University Avenue crossed the center line and both oncoming northbound lanes of travel, where the vehicle then struck a utility pole. The impact caused the vehicle to overturn.
The driver of the vehicle was subsequently transported to a local hospital with moderate injuries and is listed in stable condition. West University Avenue is closed from Versailles Boulevard to West Congress Street, and motorists are asked to use an alternate route until the roadway can be reopened. An update on the reopening of the roadway will be provided when available.
