Occupant Arrested for Setting a Fire in the Apartment

LAFAYETTE, La. (Feb. 9, 2024) – Lafayette fire investigators determined the fire at Santa Rosa Apartment Complex, 200 Merchants Boulevard, on January 4, 2024, was intentionally set in the bathroom. The occupant, Jasmine Nolan, a twenty-five-year-old black female, is suspected to have intentionally set the fire. An arrest warrant was issued for the suspect with twelve counts of Aggravated Arson and one count of Aggravated Cruelty to Animals. The suspect, Jasmine Nolan, turned herself into authorities and was booked into Lafayette Parish Correctional Center.

The fire remains under investigation.

LAFAYETTE, La. (Jan. 4, 2024) – Multiple Lafayette fire trucks responded to an apartment fire at the Santa Rosa Apartment Complex, 200 Merchants Boulevard, at 2:13 a.m. When firefighters arrived, flames were coming from an upstairs unit. The fire quickly spread to an adjacent unit, causing substantial fire damage to both. First responders quickly laddered the adjacent unit to rescue two people from their smoke-filled apartment. No injuries were reported.  

Eight apartments experienced some extent of fire damage. Only four of the eight units were occupied. The fire ultimately displaced fourteen people. One dog perished in the fire.  American Red Cross was requested to assist the victims.  The occupant reported placing a pot with grease on the range top. While in another room, she began to smell something burning and realized there was a fire in the kitchen. She called 911. Fire officials continue to investigate the cause of the fire.
