ARREST MADE: Shooting on 100 Block of Sunset Drive

LAFAYETTE, La. (Feb. 4, 2024) – In reference to the shooting incident that occurred on January 24, 2024, in the 100 block of Sunset Dr., an additional arrest has been made. Jaylon Gross, nineteen, of Lafayette, Louisiana, has been booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center for three counts of attempted 1st-degree murder. Jaylon Gross was arrested on February 3, 2024.

Jaylon Gross was arrested for the aforementioned charges once he was discharged from a local hospital due to injuries sustained during the initial shooting incident.

This incident remains under investigation. As additional findings are made, an update will be disseminated. LAFAYETTE, La. (Jan. 31, 2024 8:28 a.m.) – Regarding the shooting incident on January 24, 2024, in the 100 block of Sunset Drive, an additional arrest has been made. Anthony Ventress, twenty-three, of Lafayette, Louisiana, has been booked into Lafayette Parish Correction Center for three counts of attempted 1st-degree murder.

Anthony Ventress was arrested for the aforementioned charges once he was discharged from a local hospital due to injuries sustained during the initial shooting incident.

LAFAYETTE, La. (Jan. 26, 2024) – Regarding the shooting on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, in the 100 block of Sunset Drive, the suspect, Rickey Chaney, eighteen, of Lafayette, Louisiana, has been arrested on a warrant for two counts of attempted first-degree murder.  Chaney was booked into Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on the above-mentioned charges.  This incident is still under investigation, and more arrests are expected to follow.

LAFAYETTE, La. (Jan. 24, 2024 2:37 p.m.) – The status update for victims: two are in critical condition, and two are in stable condition. The investigation is still ongoing.

LAFAYETTE, La. (Jan. 24, 2024) – The Lafayette Police Department responded to reports of a shooting in progress around 9:53 a.m. Officers arrived in the 100 block of Sunset (*correction) Drive and located a male suffering from a gunshot wound. Preliminary investigation indicates that three individuals were standing outside of a residence in the 100 block of Sunny Drive when two other parties involved drove up, stopped, and began shooting at the individuals standing outside. One of the three individuals who was standing outside began shooting back at the vehicle, causing the vehicle to drive off and leave the scene.  As a result of the shooting, four victims were hit and suffered from gunshot wounds. All four victims were transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. At this time, the conditions of all victims are unknown.  

Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division are on scene, and the investigation is ongoing.
