LAFAYETTE, La. (Feb. 5, 2024) – On February 4, 2024, at 10:56 p.m., The Lafayette Police Department (LPD) responded to the 1200 block of NE Evangeline Thruway about a shooting incident.
Preliminary investigation details that LPD Officers arrived on the scene of a shooting that had occurred inside a local establishment, in which at least one person was shot inside the establishment by a suspect. LPD Officers arrived on the scene and conducted a safety sweep of the immediate area, consisting of a crowd of fleeing bystanders. LPD Officers then encountered an armed subject who was discharging a firearm in the immediate area. As a result of the subject’s actions, an LPD Officer was forced to engage the subject as the LPD Officer discharged their firearm at the subject. The Louisiana State Police has been requested to investigate the Officer-involved shooting. Any further questions regarding the officer-involved shooting shall be directed towards The Louisiana State Police.
The victim, who was shot inside the local establishment by a suspect, has been transported to a local hospital and is listed as being in stable condition. The suspect in the officer-involved shooting was also transported to a local hospital for injuries and is listed as being in stable condition. No Officers were harmed in this incident. The LPD Officer who discharged their firearm shall be placed on paid administrative leave per LPD protocol.
