LAFAYETTE, La. (Mar. 6, 2024) – At 9:20 a.m. this morning, Lafayette firefighters responded to a house fire in the 100 block of Perkins Drive. A neighbor saw smoke coming from the single-family dwelling and called 911 to report the fire. Firefighters arrived on the scene, entered the home, and discovered the fire in the kitchen. Emergency crews extinguished the fire within 15 minutes. The home sustained heavy fire damage.

The owner was not home when the fire started. There were four dogs inside the dwelling. Two of the four perished in the fire. Firefighters were able to rescue the other two and get them out of the home.

Fire officials determined that the fire originated on top of the kitchen range. The fire was ruled an accident.
