The Kiwanis Club of Broussard-Youngsville donated two aquatic wheelchairs to the Broussard Sports Complex (BSC) today. The wheelchairs will be used by individuals with disabilities at the BSC splash pad.
This donation is much more than just providing equipment; it is a significant step towards making the splash pad accessible to individuals with disabilities. Accessibility helps to foster inclusivity and promote diversity in the community. The wheelchairs symbolize a commitment to ensuring that everyone has equal opportunities to enjoy the community’s amenities, regardless of any physical limitations.
Members of the Kiwanis Club, the Mayor of Brousssard Ray Bourque, Broussard Parks and Recreation Director Jamison Abshire, Alderman at Large Jeff Delahoussaye, City Councilman David Forbes, Police Chief Vance Olivier, Tourism Director Millicent Norbert, Assistant Police Chief Tony Ashy, Interim President and Chief Executive Office of the Broussard Chamber of Commerce Lacey Viator, and others from the city and community were in attendance of the donation of the aquatic wheelchairs.
One aquatic wheelchair is eighteen inches wide and has a three-hundred-pound capacity; the other is twenty-four inches wide and has a four-hundred-pound capacity. Aqua Creek Products in Missoula, Montana, manufactured the wheelchairs.
“We are incredibly grateful to the Kiwanis Club of Broussard/Youngsville for their donation of equipment to assist children of all abilities,” Bourque. “Your dedication to improving the lives of others is truly inspiring and makes our city a better place for everyone.”
Kiwanis Club member Monique McBride said, “As a civic organization, we believe in the importance of giving back to our community.” McBride continued, “We hope that this donation of equipment will provide valuable support to all children and their families, enriching their lives and fostering their development.”
“I want to express my sincere gratitude for this generous donation to benefit all families who bring their children to the splash pad,” said Abshire. “These aquatic wheelchairs demonstrate a commitment to ensuring that all children have access to the resources they need to thrive.”
The aquatic wheelchairs can be reserved at no charge by calling the BSC office at (337) 330-2649 or by reserving online. Go to https://www.broussardsportscomplex.com/our-facility/rentals/, click on Reserve Your Rental Online, and create one if you do not have an account.
