LAFAYETTE, LA (May 5, 2024) – At around 2:37 p.m., Officers with the Lafayette Police Department (LPD) responded to the 100 block of Shady Ridge Lane about a domestic disturbance in progress with weapons.
Upon arrival, responding Officers met with two victims in the area where the dispatched call originated. Through investigation, it was learned that the suspect, Drevian Dugas, a twenty-two-year-old black male from Lafayette, Louisiana, had a rifle, and there was another victim still with him at that time. Based on the information provided by the victims, it was determined that Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) were needed, and they were subsequently deployed.
While attempting to interdict the suspect’s vehicle in the 100 block of New Center Drive, an officer-involved shooting occurred.
Following the above altercation, the suspect quickly left the area in his vehicle with the victim still inside with him. The suspect began driving erratically as officers pursued him. As a result of his erratic driving, the suspect struck a vehicle in the 2300 block of Kaliste Road at the intersection of Lake Farm Road, causing it to overturn. The suspect’s vehicle then slid into oncoming traffic, striking a second vehicle. To ensure the safety of other innocent drivers, the suspect’s vehicle was pinned in by an LPD officers’ unit to immobilize it.
As a result of these incidents, the victim inside the vehicle was transported to a local hospital in stable condition. The driver and the passenger of the first vehicle struck by the suspect’s vehicle were transported for treatment of moderate injuries. The suspect was later taken into custody and is currently receiving medical treatment at a local hospital for his injuries.
