UPDATE: This project has been moved to Friday, June 28, 2024.
BROUSSARD, June 21, 2024 – On Monday, June 24, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., The Home Depot Foundation and the Marine Corps League will team up to make the home of a local Marine Corps veteran safer.
Hal Tornroth bravely served his country for more than half a decade. He now lives alone in Broussard and relies on his motorized wheelchair for transportation. However, he can only use it indoors due to the instability of his front porch. This coming Monday, volunteers from Team Depot, The Home Depot’s associate volunteer force, will improve the stability of Hal’s front porch and add a wheelchair-accessible ramp for him. These upgrades to Hal’s house will not only improve his accessibility and independence in safely navigating his own home; they will also help him to get out more and interact with other veterans in the community.
Giving back to veterans through a variety of projects like this one is personal to The Home Depot, as more than 35,000 of the company’s associates are veterans or military spouses. Since 2011, The Home Depot Foundation has invested $500 million in veteran causes and helped renovate and enhance more than 60,000 veteran homes and facilities, ensuring more of our nation’s heroes have a safe, comfortable place to call home that fits their individual needs.
