Eddie Rawles, resident of District 2 in Broussard, has alleged Broussard City Councilman David Bonin of District 2 went to his home on Saturday, October 15, 2022 around 5 p.m. and harassed him.
Rawles advised BY Local News (BYLN) that he had worked on having petitions signed to have speed bumps put on a street that runs on the side of his house (which is on a corner lot) due to speeders, however he stated speed bumps were not placed due to not having enough signatures on the petitions. Currently there are notices of future stop signs being placed on several places on that street.
As stated to BYLN by Rawles, Bonin was said to have gone to Rawles’ home to inquire about the petitions for the speed bumps. Rawles advised BLYN he told Bonin that residents were frustrated regarding the petitions as they have done this before without seeing anything done to put in the speed bumps. With the future stop signs to go up, residents want to see how those work out before pursuing speed bumps again. It was at that point Rawles claims Bonin pointed his finger at him saying he was the problem, that he dropped the ball on the speed bumps and he is the reason the speed bumps won’t be taken care of on that street. Rawles stated he then advised Bonin the conversation was over and told Bonin to leave his property.
After Bonin left, Rawles said his wife called Bonin to tell him she doesn’t appreciate him calling her and harassing her family. Rawles said his wife had previously received multiple phone calls from Bonin prior to the alleged harassment trying to get Rawles’ phone number.
Rawles stated both he and his wife filed a report with the Broussard City Police Department on October 16, 2022.
Bonin was emailed by BYLN requesting his comment on the alleged harassment. At the time of this posting, no response has been received by BYLN from Bonin.
Bonin has been a District 2 City Councilman since 2003 and is seeking re-election in the November 8, 2022 election.
