Submitted by the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development

BATON ROUGE, LA (July 31, 2024) – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) today signed a new Stewardship and Oversight Agreement with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), Louisiana Division Office. This agreement, enacted under section 106(c) of title 23, United States Code, allows DOTD to assume certain project responsibilities traditionally managed by FHWA.

The agreement details the roles and responsibilities between DOTD and the FHWA. These roles and responsibilities concern project approvals and Federal-Aid Highway Program (FAHP) oversight in key areas such as design; plans, specifications and estimates: contract awards; inspections; and real property approvals. This partnership aims to streamline project delivery and uphold the highest standards of compliance with federal requirements.

DOTD previously signed similar agreements in 2007 and 2015, demonstrating a continued effort to advance the state’s transportation infrastructure through effective collaboration with federal partners.
