LAFAYETTE, LA (July 31, 2024) – On July 31, 2024, at 9:17 p.m., a Lafayette Police Department (LPD) Motorcycle Officer was struck from behind by a vehicle while conducting an escort. The officer was blocking the entrance ramp onto I-49 at Gloria Switch Rd. The officer was transported to a local hospital for treatment, where he is in stable but serious condition. The driver was taken into custody and impairment is suspected.

The suspect was transported to LPD for further testing. An update will be disseminated when more information is available.

The Louisiana State Police will be handling the investigation. The driver was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated (1st offense), felony hit and run driving, first degree vehicular negligent injuring, and careless operation.
