LAFAYETTE, LA (September 18, 2024) – At 5:24 a.m., Lafayette firefighters responded to a mobile home fire in the 100 block of Amite Drive after receiving multiple 911 calls. When firefighters arrived on scene, the mobile home was completely engulfed in flames. Emergency crews battled the fire for approximately thirty minutes before getting it under control. The mobile home was not legitimately occupied due to a previous fire. It burned in August 2021. The mobile home sustained substantial fire damage this morning.

Neighbors informed first responders that individuals had been living in the burnt mobile home. The squatters left the scene prior to officials arriving. Lafayette fire investigators are working to determine the identity of the persons living there.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
