Major Vehicle Crash Involving a Pedestrian

LAFAYETTE, LA (November 27, 2024) – On November 27, 2024, at 10:26 am, officers with the Lafayette Police Department (LPD) were dispatched to the 1400 block of West University Avenue about a major vehicle accident involving a pedestrian. Lafayette Police Traffic Investigators were called to the scene, and the preliminary investigation revealed that the pedestrian had attempted to cross West Congress Street at the intersection.

The pedestrian was in the crosswalk; however, she had a do-not-cross signal at the time she entered the street. Vehicle 1 was traveling on University Ave. and was turning right onto West Congress Street with a green traffic control signal. Driver 1 was transported to the Lafayette Police Department, where he submitted a voluntary breath sample, and no impairment was suspected. The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital and is currently listed in critical condition and undergoing surgery.

The LPD’s Traffic Unit is investigating this crash. Updates will be provided when more information becomes available.
