Lafayette, LA (January 25, 2025) – Lafayette firefighters responded to a house fire in the 400 block of Foreman Drive at 3:49 pm this afternoon. Multiple calls were received through 911, reporting heavy smoke coming from the dwelling. First responders arrived on the scene within minutes of flames from a storage room under the carport. Firefighters were initially informed kids were inside; however, they quickly confirmed all young kids exited safely. There were 3 pets inside. Firefighters entered the dwelling and rescued a cat and two dogs. The carport and storage room sustained heavy fire damage. The home received moderate heat and smoke damage.

Fire officials determined the fire originated in the storage room. It was utilized as an outside sitting area and a place to keep one of the dogs. There was a space heater plugged into a surge protector. The heater was in use at the time of the fire. An electrical malfunction in the surge protector is being examined as a possible cause to the fire. Further examination of the power supply is being conducted.
