Lafayette, LA (February 10, 2025, 9:50 a.m.) – The preliminary investigation of the shooting on Johnston Street last evening indicates that a white SUV was traveling southbound on Johnston Street in the 2300 block. The vehicle was occupied by the driver, Shentell Brown, a 47-year-old black female from Louisiana, and her husband, Kevin Brown, a 60-year-old black male. Kevin Brown was seated in the front passenger seat. During a verbal altercation, Kevin Brown drew a firearm and shot Shentell Brown multiple times. She died from her injuries. Kevin Brown then turned the gun on himself, sustaining injuries that later resulted in his death at a local hospital. The husband and wife were from New Iberia, Louisiana.
Two children, who were in the back of the vehicle, exited the SUV during the incident. One child flagged down a passing motorist who transported her to the police department. The other child was struck by a passing vehicle and sustained minor injuries.
This incident remains under investigation by detectives with the Lafayette Police Department.
