UPDATE: (April 24, 2026) – According to a news report by KADN News 15, one of the students from Ascension Episcopal School that was injured in the the shooting at Mall of Louisiana on April 23, has died.
Baton Rouge, LA (April 23, 2026) — A shooting inside the Mall of Louisiana left one person dead and multiple others injured Thursday, according to Associated Press.
Authorities said the shooting occurred in the mall’s food court and stemmed from an argument between two groups that escalated into gunfire. Investigators indicated the incident was not a random attack, according to The Associated Press.
Three high school seniors from Ascension Episcopal School were among those injured, according to KADN News 15. The school is located in Youngsville. The extent of their injuries has not been fully detailed.
According to KADN News 15, Ascension Episcopal School issued the following statement:
“We are heartbroken by the news that some of our students were involved in a serious off-campus incident. We ask our community to join us in holding our school in prayer during this incredibly difficult time. Out of deep respect for the families and the sensitivity of this situation, we will not be sharing additional details at this time. Our priority is the care of our students and school family.”
Officials with the Baton Rouge Police Department said several individuals were taken into custody. Authorities also said there is no ongoing threat to the public.
The shooting prompted a large law enforcement response, and portions of the mall were evacuated as officers secured the scene. Officials have not released the names of those involved.
The investigation remains ongoing, and additional details are expected as authorities continue to gather information.
