Within the Broussard Commons complex on Alberstons Parkway in Broussard lies The Point Seafood and Steakhouse. The restaurant has been opened since April 3, 2019 and is owned and operated by Candance Cooper Sonnier.
The Point’s menu consists of seafood, steak, burgers and salads and of course desserts. When asked what her favorite entry is, Sonnier’s reply was the Shrimp Wreck which is one-half pound of boiled shrimp and a one-half cluster of Dungeness crab. Sonnier had to add one more favorite, the boudin quesadilla.
Sonnier’s recipes came from her inspirations from food at the various restaurants where she previously worked. She also noted when cooking grits “grits are not a passivity; treat them like your roux”.
In 2019 The Point was voted Best New Restaurant in The Times, in 2020 took second place from New Iberia Chamber of Commerce and in 2021 took first place at the Taste of Broussard.
The Point has a friendly family atmosphere and when dining there Sonnier can be found talking to her customers and treating them like family and friends.
Sonnier added she is “working to help build a community”.
The Point is open Tuesday – Saturday from 5 p.m. till close.
