I believe that our perspective of life determines our experience of life. No matter what happens to us, we get to decide how we see and experience it.
Many don’t know, but one of the most challenging times in my life was when I was being investigated for tax fraud. Of course, no fault was found on my part. However, the few years of going through that process were hard. The thought of going to jail and not being able to see my family and watch my girls grow up was hard. This slowed me down but didn’t stop me. This burdened me but didn’t cause me to quit. Through this pain, I realized that I had outgrown my business structure and some people. Through this time, I realized that I had skipped some steps and that there were areas I hadn’t given enough attention to. Because of this happening my company is far more structured. My mentality is far more tolerant. My perseverance gained new levels.
I had an excuse to blame someone else, a reason to play the race card, a reason to play the victim, and an excuse to quit. I chose not to. I chose to take responsibility and get better. I chose to do better. I chose to learn other ways to prevent things like this from happening again. I chose to hang around others who could help me learn new things. Because I chose to continue, I am stronger and wiser.
Don’t let your pain or the happenings of this world cause you to quit. Slowing down is fine, but don’t quit. Allow it to grow you.
