Submitted by United States Representative Clay Higgins of the 3rd District in Louisiana.
WASHINGTON (Apr. 16, 2024) – United States Representative Clay Higgins (R-LA) delivered articles of impeachment against Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to the U.S. Senate. Representative Higgins was joined by House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Mark Green (R-TN) and fellow impeachment managers.
On February 13, 2024, the U.S. House of Representatives voted to impeach Secretary Mayorkas for high crimes and misdemeanors. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) is now responsible for determining if and how a trial moves forward. Should the U.S. Senate vote to move forward with a full trial, Congressman Higgins will serve in a prosecutorial role and present the case against Secretary Mayorkas.
Earlier today, during a House Homeland Committee Hearing, Representative Higgins spoke directly to Secretary Mayorkas, outlining the case for his impeachment and urging the Senate to conduct a full trial.
“Today is not a day of celebration. Secretary Mayorkas has betrayed the trust of the American people. His service has left a scar on our nation’s soul that may never be removed,” said Representative Higgins. “He has been impeached by the House and must now be tried by the Senate and removed from office. America demands accountability.”
