Submitted by Lafayette Consolidated Goverment
LAFAYETTE, LA (May 1, 2024) – During an annual banquet, board installation, and awards ceremony of the Louisiana Municipal Clerks Association (LMCA) held this past Thursday, April 25, 2024, Lafayette Clerk of the Council Veronica L. Arceneaux was installed as 2024-2025 President of the LMCA. The City of Lafayette served as host of the 2024 LMCA Spring Conference from Wednesday, April 24, 2024, through Thursday, April 25, 2024, when municipal clerks and deputy clerks from villages, towns, and cities throughout Louisiana convened to conduct the annual business of LMCA and participate in general and specialized sessions for professional development with relevance to their respective roles within municipal government.
Prior to being installed as LMCA President, Arceneaux proudly served on the LMCA Executive Board since 2017, ascending the ranks from service as 3-Year Trustee, Public Relations Officer, Secretary/Treasurer, to Vice President. Having been employed by Lafayette Consolidated Government (LCG) for thirty-one years, Arceneaux brings decades of experience to her presidency. Following many years of service to multiple Councils and Councilmembers, she was first appointed as Clerk of the former Lafayette City-Parish Council in April 2013. In January 2020, Arceneaux was reconfirmed as Clerk of the Council under the new and current structure of LCG’s legislative branch, whereby separate City and Parish Councils exist as the governing authority of LCG.
As the first local government official in the State of Louisiana tasked with directing the day-to-day activities of two (2) Councils and the staff thereof under a consolidated form of government, Arceneaux brings the requisite knowledge, abilities, and skills to thrive at the helm of LMCA. In addition to having earned the LMCA designation of Louisiana Certified Municipal Clerk in 2017, she also previously completed undergraduate studies at University of Louisiana at Lafayette and earned a Master’s degree in public administration from Southern University and A&M College.
Administering the oath of office to Arceneaux and to the new slate of 2024-2025 LMCA officers was Lafayette City Council Vice-Chair Kenneth P. Boudreaux.
