This entry is part 2 of 9 in the series Get to Know Your Elected Officials

Brach Myers, from Lafayette, Louisiana, has over twenty years of experience in the healthcare business with Louisiana Health Care (LHC) Group.

Myers spent his childhood alternating between his father in Palmetto, a small town in St. Landry Parish, and his mother in New Iberia. He and his brothers rode their bicycles almost daily during that summer to Budden’s Old General Store, considering that a big part of his childhood. Several times a year, while on their way to visit the family farm, he stops at the Budden store to show his son, Emile, the store and to grab snacks.

He lived with his grandparents while attending Opelousas Catholic High School, from which he graduated in 1999. After high school graduation, Myers studied business at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette (ULL) for two years. He began working at the LHC Group, a company founded and built by his father, Keith, and stepmother, Ginger.

Myers focuses on expanding LHC, which now operates over 700 locations and employs more than 30,000 people. LHC was sold a few years ago, with Myers still working for the company his parents founded.

After beginning his role at LHC, Myers identified the most relevant studies to his field and enrolled in Harvard Business School online. His education equipped him with the skills necessary for handling mergers and acquisitions. He is the Senior Vice President of Corporate Development (Healthcare Mergers and Acquisitions), which makes him responsible for acquiring home health and hospice companies for LHC. The newly acquired companies retain their name and identity, and the employees keep their tenure.

For the past year, Myers has served as the Louisiana State Representative for District 45. His understanding of the home health and hospice care industries enables him to seek alternatives, such as remote care, to provide needed care to individuals requiring these services while reducing the cost of the care, but not the quality of care, and ultimately saving taxpayer money. His knowledge also allows him to relate his understanding of these services to other legislators and officials when needed.

While serving as District 45’s representing and being on the following committees – Health and Welfare, Retirement, Ways and Means, House Executive Committee, and Joint Legislative Committee on Capital Outlay.

Myers encourages Emile to seek ways to support his community. As a result, Emile has organized the Holiday Hot Cocoa Fundraiser each December for the past six years with the help of his parents, family, and friends. Each year, the proceeds from the fundraiser are donated to a different organization in need.

Myers enjoys fishing and camping as a family activity. He, his wife Carly, and Emile fish for redfish and trout at their camp in a marsh south of Abbeville. Together, they hunt whitetail deer and ducks.
